Devlog #0.5 Where have I been?
You're probably wondering what happened to me and the project. Why did I stop posting these development logs after the first one said there would be more?
Simple; Blame my diploma.
As it turns out, the first Trimester of the Diploma is notoriously breakneck and very much a "sink or swim" scenario when it comes to the workload. And as an animation student who doesn't have nearly as much experience in art as my classmates, I was at a much more significant disadvantage that meant - you guessed it - I had to work even harder to keep up.
Great news however, not only have I made it into the next Trimester, but the rest of the course is said to be a lot easier-going so I'll have a much better work-life balance.
Which means that development of Derelict will be resuming today.
However, because 3 months went by without any significant progress made on the game, I have made a tough, but important decision for the sake of Derelict coming out as a good game, and not just a functional game:
Derelict's release date is being pushed back to July 2025.
To be completely transparent, I was foolish to think that a one year schedule was actually viable as a solo dev who's simultaneously studying a diploma. Fortunately, I have been thinking about the future, and how I'll navigate the financially uncertain transitional period between graduating and finding an entry-level job.
I won't elaborate on that since it's somewhat personal and not entirely relevant, but all you need to know is that I no longer feel pressured to have this game ready by the end of the year. I will work on the game no matter what my situation will be, after I graduate.
Thank you for reading, and thank you for your understanding.
